What is it?

Eicosatrienoic acid is an omega-9 fatty acid that is found in small amounts in meat, dairy products, and plant oils. It is not usually a large part of the diet. Eicosatrienoic acid can be formed by our bodies when we are low on linoleic acid and alpha-linoleic acid.

Why it matters

High blood levels of eicosatrienoic acid suggest a deficiency in essential fatty acids such as linoleic acid and alpha-linoleic acid.

Reference ranges

Levels of individual fatty acids are not clinically helpful in isolation. Your Omega 3 Index, Omega-3/Omega-6 ratio, and EPA:AA ratio provide a more comprehensive assessment of your overall fatty acid status. We look at the results of those tests to determine whether you are getting the right amount.
