Frequently Asked Questions

Getting started

We offer advice to enhance your current health state, emphasizing prevention through exercise, nutrition, sleep, and emotional well-being but not medical management of existing illness. If we discover any incidental health issues, we provide suggestions for discussion with your primary care provider. While our suggestions impact overall health and various chronic conditions, comprehensive medical management of existing illnesses remains the responsibility of your current medical team.

Niahealth takes a holistic approach to your entire health, rather than focusing on just one part. Our membership includes comprehensive testing for areas of particular interest to biological males, such as testosterone, liver health, and heart health. Male hormone testing is available as an add-on service, which can be selected at checkout for an additional fee.

No. We take data privacy and security very seriously. Your results are for your eyes only and will be handled in keeping with our Privacy Policy.

NiaHealth is designed for anyone over 18. It helps you understand your current health and how it evolves over time. By establishing a baseline with one set of test results, you can better track your body’s trends and take proactive steps to manage your future health.

Yes. Our service is HSA-eligible and CRA-eligible medical expenses, but it is recommended that you check with your individual insurer if our services can be covered under any of your other supplemental benefits. If you require a quote for your HSA, use our free quoting tool to generate a personalized membership quote with the details your provider may need. Note: each HSA may require different information for eligibility.

Comprehensive testing has often been challenging for patients, involving confusing PDFs, searching for result explanations, manually tracking trends, and unclear costs until the bill arrives. NiaHealth simplifies this process by organizing everything in one place. We offer transparent pricing and personalized insights from top medical professionals, helping you understand your results with ease.

It isn't an absolution you cannot do NiaHealth for one year after pregnancy. Here is the nuance: NiaHealth isn’t designed for use during pregnancy as pregnancy brings big changes to your hormones, metabolism, and other body systems. These shifts make it hard to interpret biomarker data accurately. During pregnancy, your healthcare team is the best source for lab testing—they’ll focus on the specific markers that reflect the health of both you and your baby.

It is your choice as to when you have your next NiaHealth draw after pregnancy. After birth, your body goes through a recovery phase often called the “fourth trimester.” During this time, your hormones and metabolism gradually start returning toward their usual patterns. Many people notice things begin to stabilize around three months postpartum, though everyone’s timeline is a bit different.

If you’re breastfeeding, your body will continue to experience changes. Because of this, it can take longer for your system to fully settle. Between about three months and up to a year after delivery, your results from any biomarker-based health tools—including NiaHealth—can still fluctuate. By around one year postpartum, many people’s biomarkers are closer to their baseline, which makes results more reliable for understanding long-term health patterns.

NiaHealth includes 3-4x more lab tests than your average annual checkup in Canada. This includes heart, thyroid, metabolic, kidneys, liver, nutrients and more. View all of the biomarkers we test for here. We also use the most up-to-date, evidence-based reference ranges customized to your healthspan and longevity. Our reports go well beyond your average 15 minute checkup and provide you with a level of insight and actionable recommendations that empowers you to take your health to the next level. Learn more about our plans here.

NiaHealth currently operates in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, and Saskatchewan.

NiaHealth’s services are not covered under public/government health insurance plans in Canada. However, our service is an HSA-eligible expense (in addition to CRA-eligible medical expense), but it is recommended that you check with your insurer first. You should review the terms of your private health insurance plan or consult with your insurance plan provider to determine if NiaHealth’s service is eligible for reimbursement under your private health insurance plan or any other supplemental benefits. All biomarkers are ordered and reviewed by an Authorized Medical Provider licensed to practice in your province. If you require a quote for insurance coverage, use our free quoting tool to generate a personalized membership quote with the details your insurance provider may need.

Niahealth takes a holistic approach to your entire health, rather than focusing on just one part. Our membership includes comprehensive testing for areas of particular interest to biological females, such as thyroid, heart health, and hormones (only available for biological females between the ages of 45 and 55 at this stage). Female hormone testing is available as an add-on service, which can be selected at checkout for an additional fee.

We currently offer blood-based biomarker testing (view all biomarkers we test), VO2 Max, DEXA scans, emotional health assessments, gut microbiome testing, and more (explore all our add-on tests here). New tests are continually evaluated and added to the NiaHealth platform. Every biomarker undergoes a rigorous, evidence-guided review to ensure that each addition adds value, is actionable, and will support the long-term health of our members.

Although NiaHealth will immediately help you understand what’s happening inside your body, identifying long-term trends—both positive and negative—takes time. The sooner you start, the better you’ll be able to take control of your health.

Canada’s government-funded healthcare is built to deliver medically necessary testing and care. This means most tests are ordered only when symptoms appear, and follow a step-by-step process where additional testing is ordered only if earlier results show something concerning.

NiaHealth gives you a different path.Instead of waiting for symptoms, we provide proactive, comprehensive insights into your health today — and your risks for tomorrow. Our test bundles and plans are designed for people who want to stay ahead of their health, not just react to issues as they arise.

These tests aren’t meant to replace the medical system or diagnose disease. They’re designed to surface potential risks early, helping you make informed choices, take meaningful action sooner, and feel confident that you’re not leaving your health to chance.

Typically, within just a few days. After you join, we will contact you to schedule your first tests.

Yes, you will need to present a piece of government-issued ID during lab visits, and it must match exactly in order for you to be tested.

No - we do not prescribe medication. However, we do provide, where applicable, suggestions. For interventions (including medications and supplements), we include a note of suggestions that you can discuss with your current medical team. Prescriptions are left to their discretion.

In British Columbia, Manitoba, and Ontario, members can elect for an in-clinic draw. In other provinces, an at-home blood draw, which involves a mobile phlebotomist visiting your home or office, is the only collection method available ($100 additional fee). Blood draws take between 10 and 15 minutes to complete.

Tests are performed by professional phlebotomists who are experienced in working with individuals who may have fainted before. If you have a history of fainting, be sure to inform your phlebotomist.

No. It’s important to us that your results come from the most reliable and clinically validated collection and analysis processes. The blood based biomarker tests included in your NiaHealth membership require professional sample collection to ensure accuracy, consistency, and high-quality results. For blood collection and analysis, we partner exclusively with accredited laboratories across Canada to maintain rigorous standards and deliver trusted, clinically meaningful insights.

NiaHealth provides a requisition that you will use so you don’t need to worry about this.

When you decide to test is up to you—there isn’t a “right” or “wrong” moment. Most members choose to test when they feel motivated to understand their health more deeply or are wanting direction on what changes to make. If that’s where you are, it’s an ideal time.

What makes NiaHealth unique is the combination of a comprehensive biomarker panel, an intuitive dashboard that highlights your next steps, and a personalized one-on-one consult to help you interpret your results and create a plan.

If you’ve had recent testing done elsewhere, that information can add context. For that reason, we offer complimentary uploading and integration of some historical results so you get a fuller health picture.

You do not need to test every 6–12 months. However, by monitoring your results at regular intervals, you can see how key aspects of your health are changing over time. This helps you understand your personal trends and provides insight into where your health may be heading.

Comparing results over time also allows you to establish your own baseline. Repeating them periodically can help you identify meaningful changes and guide adjustments to your lifestyle or health plan if needed.

With a NiaHealth membership, you have access to more than 150 tests each year and the option to retest every 6 months, which is a commonly recommended interval for preventive monitoring. You also have the flexibility to test more or less frequently based on your goals.

If there is enough time before your scheduled visit, the new test(s) can be arranged to run alongside your upcoming appointment. Once lab tests are scheduled with NiaHealth, changes cannot be made. However, members can easily re-test at any time.

For most NiaHealth blood panels, fasting is required; however, there are a few exceptions. Once you’ve signed up, your dashboard will provide specific instructions for each test so you’ll know exactly how to prepare.

No. We don’t offer one-time or à la carte testing for individual biomarkers. A NiaHealth membership is designed around a comprehensive panel that looks at your health as a whole, rather than isolated results.

Cancellations made within 24 hours of your scheduled mobile blood draw will incur a $75 fee, which will be charged to your NiaHealth account.

Blood draw information

For most NiaHealth blood panels, fasting is required; however, there are a few exceptions. Once you’ve signed up, your dashboard will provide specific instructions for each test so you’ll know exactly how to prepare.

Avoid engaging in strenuous exercise 24 hours prior to the appointment.

The following pre-draw instructions are designed to screen out short-term fluctuations and superfluous variables that do not accurately represent your true health status (e.g., inflammation markers can be naturally elevated with exercise).

Fasting
‍Please ensure you fast for 8-12 hours prior to the blood test. Abstain from food and beverages, except for water, during this fasting period.

Hydration
Stay well-hydrated by drinking plenty of water before your blood test. Adequate hydration ensures a smoother blood draw and can prevent potential complications as well as blood marker abnormalities, such as urea, creatinine, and eGFR temporary changes.

Exercise
Avoid engaging in strenuous exercise 24 hours prior to the appointment. While mild exercise is acceptable and helps to optimize your glucose and insulin levels, strenuous physical activity - particularly high-intensity workouts of any kind - can temporarily alter certain blood parameters, such as creatine kinase and hs-CRP levels due to muscle damage and temporary inflammation, which may result in inaccurate test results. This precaution allows the body to return to its baseline state, providing a clearer and more accurate picture of your overall health status.

Alcohol & caffeine
Avoid alcohol: Do not consume alcohol for at least 48 hours before your blood test, as it can affect liver function results.
Limit caffeine: If possible, avoid or minimize caffeine 12 hours before your test. Caffeine can impact hydration-related markers, such as electrolytes and kidney function, which may influence your results.

Adequate rest
Ensure you get a good night's sleep before the blood test. Sufficient rest contributes to overall health and can prevent potential stress-related variations in test results.

Stress management
Relaxation techniques: practice stress-reducing techniques, such as deep breathing or meditation, to minimize the impact of stress on test results.

Do not consume alcohol for at least 48 hours before your blood test, as it can affect liver function results.

The following post-draw instructions are designed to ensure optimal recovery after your blood test.

Hydration
Drink water. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. This helps replenish fluids lost during the blood draw and can prevent dehydration.

Rest & recovery
Avoid strenuous activity for 2 hours. Refrain from engaging in strenuous exercise immediately after the blood test (for 2 hours). Give your body some time to recover and avoid potential complications at the puncture site.

Post-blood test snack
Have a light snack. If you fasted before the blood test, have a light and nutritious snack to help stabilize your blood sugar levels. This can include items like a piece of fruit or a small serving of yogurt.

Monitor for adverse reactions
Check for bleeding. Keep an eye on the puncture site for any bleeding or unusual swelling. If you notice prolonged bleeding, apply gentle pressure and inform the healthcare provider.

Avoid or minimize caffeine 12 hours before your test, if possible. Caffeine can impact hydration-related markers, such as electrolytes and kidney function, which may influence your results.
