What is it?

Common in many healthy microbiomes, Faecalibacterium bacteria are protective against inflammation and help to maintain the lining of the gut [1]. They are able to digest dietary fiber and support other beneficial bacteria.

Faecalibacterium species produce butyrate [2], one of the key short chain fatty acids which keep the lower intestines healthy [1].

Undetectable or low levels of Faecalibacterium are not optimal since these bacteria do so much good for the body. Ideally, levels fall into the range of typical to high. (Adapted from Tiny Health)
