What is it?

The TC/HDL-C ratio stands for the Total Cholesterol to High-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol ratio. Total cholesterol includes all the cholesterol in your blood, while HDL cholesterol is often referred to as "good" cholesterol because it helps remove other forms of cholesterol from your bloodstream. The TC/HDL-C ratio is obtained by dividing your total cholesterol level by your HDL cholesterol level.

Why it matters

The TC/HDL-C ratio is a better indicator of risk than just measuring LDL-C; but is not as good a risk marker as ApoB. TC/HDL-C is often checked and reported as part of a total cholesterol panel. For this reason, it can be helpful if you are looking at trending readings over time.
