The ApoB/ApoA1 ratio tells us what the relative concentration of particles that cause atherosclerosis and those that protect against it are in your blood.
Researchers looking at the risk of cardiovascular disease in over 30,000 people found that the ratio of ApoB to ApoA1 in the blood was one of the most significant predictors of heart disease and stroke.
In general, it is better to have lower levels of ApoB and higher levels of ApoA1. Therefore lower levels of the ApoB/ApoA1 ratio are better. We have based our at risk and optimum cut off values based on the levels at which cardiovascular risk appears to change significantly.
